From My Heart To Yours
Secrets
By Jackie Evans, J&J Music
Secrets…what an ever expanding subject. As children, we loved them. To be told a secret by a friend, we would almost burst keeping it inside and being faithful to our friend not to tell anyone. A feeling of importance took over our being in that we felt a little more special than the others knowing something no one else knew.
Childhood secrets are simple, mean nothing, usually affect no one and most of the time are a little silly. Things change when we become adults and have adult secrets. They become more serious in nature and more unethical. Secrets from our boss, in our workplace, secrets from our family and spouse. Things that are kept deep inside of us, that we share with no one. Secrets that are hurtful and destructive.
The biggest problem is that we can hide them from everyone except God. As Christians, we can go about our daily lives, put on a fake face and cover up anything we wouldn't want exposed. But eventually, for our own good, these secrets are usually found out.
We really aren't unique in these situations. Men and women of God have been hiding things since Adam and Eve; since sin came into the world. Let's look at a few situations:
Adam and Eve: ate from the tree of knowledge and both tried to blame someone else for their disobedience. When confronted by God, what did God do? He made clothes for them out of skins and forgave them.
Moses: killed an Egyptian in anger. What did God do? He forgave Moses and chose him to lead His children.
David: committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed. What did God do? He forgave David and called him a man after God's own heart.
Samson: God gave him enormous strength, the secret of which lay in his long hair. Samson divulged this secret and it destroyed him. God also forgave him and restored his strength.
Then there is Judas who sold out Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Did Jesus forgive this betrayal? Yes he did but Judas couldn't forgive himself. This secret drove him to suicide.
The pattern I see in all of these, and so many more in the Bible is that God forgives. Whether or not we can forgive ourselves, God is faithful to forgive us of anything we repent and are truly sorry for.
Now we come to you and me. As for me, I have used this go begin searching through my heart. I have asked God to guide and direct me in dealing with the secrets He brings to my mind that I may be harboring. Will you do the same? Will you ask God to help you live a Godly life, free of secrets and anything else that would not be pleasing and bring Glory to Him?
Grateful for His Faithfulness
Jackie
