March 2004 Table of Contents
A View From The Front Lines
Excitement, Exclusives, and Easter!
By Kirk Lyons
As we headed out the door of our offices for the 2004 SWBTS Church Music Conference in Fort Worth, I assured Gary that I would have my article for the March, April, May issue of the Communicator to him by the end of that week. It is Sunday night the 22nd of February, my article is now officially 21 days late, my life has been a blur since January and I have no clue of what I should write.
I have made a corporate decision tonight and rather than delay the mailing of a magazine, I will share some exciting things from the world of J&J Music. Before doing that, I would like to take a minute to thank our Father for continuing to use this small group of sinners, saved by grace, to serve His servants through the ministry of music.
As always, one of the highlights of my year is our times of fellowship at the many conferences we host or attend. January and February of 2004 have been no exception. With July just around the corner, I wanted to remind you to register today and save with the early bird specials for our Gatlinburg event. This conference will take place July 5th through the 8th and will be filled with music, music, music, and many special guests. You will spend time with The Christ Church Choir, Geron Davis, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, and Allen Asbury. We will have our infamous Children's Camp for ages 6 through 12 and per the request of those whose children have outgrown this event, our first annual Youth Encounter, for children ages 13 through 17. They will spend 3 days with Chris McPherson and his team from Modesto, CA, praising God through song, dance, devotion and prayer. There time will culminate with a very special youth premiere on Thursday afternoon.
Mike Speck has a new project with Lillenas Publishing called, "For the Glory of Christ." On Saturday, February 1st , we were able to be in Atlanta for the live recording of this work. I would like to thank Mr. Hardy Weathers, George Baldwin, Sam Mehaffie and all the folks from Lillenas for allowing us to be a part of this wonderful weekend. Look for this project to release at the end of April. For those of you attending MusiCalifornia this year, you will be first to be blessed by this wonderful work!
Buster Pray and the ministry team from First Baptist Church of Springdale, Arkansas have produced something all of you will be interested in. It is called "The Hymns Project," and is offering new rhythms, new chords and pure melodies for some of the most well known hymns of our generation. This is an exclusive to J&J Music, and I would love to have you hear this so.
Another J&J exclusive comes from Alan Publishing and Cross Music. These two companies have joined forces to offer an incredible opportunity for you to preview their latest choral releases. Membership in this new choral club is only $29.95 and will consist of releases in January and July. Their initial club packet, which began shipping in January, is stuffed with more than 30 octavos and 2 interactive CD's for your review. It will be the best $30.00 you will ever spend. You can register online here.
Last, but certainly not least, is the exiting news concerning our Worship America move back to Houston, Texas, in January of 2005. I know there will be a huge ad elsewhere in this issue and I would encourage each of you to take advantage of the special early bird pricing. You do not want to miss our first year at the beautiful Marriott Waterway Hotel and Convention Center, located in The Woodlands.
Well that was mouth full, and only a short preview of what is new and exciting for what looks to be an incredible 2004. Somewhere close by you will see our top sellers for the Easter Season. Speaking of Easter, I pray each of you has a great Holiday Season and that God does an incredible work through you and your ministries.
Waiting on a cloud,
Kirk
