United We Stand

By Pam Andrews

Have you ever wanted to sit down with the President and have a long talk? Someday, I would like to do that if only to tell him thank you for all he is doing for me, my family, and my country. Because of recent events in our country our President and, in fact, government has been placed under a tremendous strain. How can you fight an enemy that lives in shadows and hides behinds rocks?

How can you fight an enemy that inhabits the lands of innocent people enslaving them for the most part leaving them no freedom? How do you fight an enemy that justifies their behavior by hate and anger? Yes, this new war on terrorism is upon us and, praise God, our government has stepped up to the plate to take a stand. But, we as Christians already know this evil that is upon us. We have already been fighting the one that lives in the shadows, the one that enslaves innocent people, the one that brings hatred and death. We know this enemy well…Satan. My mom used to remind me when I was a child that Satan comes in many packages. He is clever and confusing to us and can urge us into disaster.

On September 11, Satan thought that this destruction of so many lives and families would divide America. In fact, for many years it seemed to me that America has been divided. Republican/Democrat, Christian/Non-Christian, black/white, rich/poor…yes, we have been divided. Satan is very clever. He knows the old saying, "Divide and conquer." He has slowly but surely divided Americans isolating us from each other by hatred and the lack of understanding. I can see the joy on Satan's face as he watched those buildings tumble. Finally, he had accomplished what he had always wanted. America would be destroyed.

But, Satan forgot one thing. He forgot the wonderful heritage of America. He forgot that we have built our entire country on the foundation of Jesus Christ. He forgot that our founding fathers were Godly men and women who walked in the fear of God and lived to honor his name. He forgot that the Constitution was based on the commandments given to us by God. He forgot that songs like "America, the Beautiful" and "America" were written by Godly people who were inspired to write such songs by our Lord and Savior. He forgot about "Old Glory" which has colors that stand for purity, valor, and justice. He forgot all the service men and women who over the years who have gladly paid the price with their lives for our freedoms today. He forgot that we as Americans have been reared by God and live on His foundation. We are not perfect. We have made many mistakes. But, through it all, we have stood strong on the Rock of Jesus Christ. And, we will continue to stand on that rock no matter what befalls us.

The courage of those Americans who lost their lives while trying to save others is a wonderful example of our Lord. The calls made to wives and husbands reminding them of everlasting love reminds us of the everlasting love of Jesus Christ. The willingness to take action or "Let's Roll" is a fine example of how our Lord is always there to help us and take action in our lives. The generous gifts of food, clothes, blood, work, and time also reveals the body of Christ and how when things do go wrong how God provides hands and arms and legs to do His work on earth.

So you see, though Satan thought he was defeating us, due to our heritage as a country we were not defeated. In fact, we were made stronger. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! All across the country as I have traveled teaching children's choir conferences, I have noticed a reoccurring sign. "United We Stand" is on a billboard in almost every city. There are also t-shirts and bumper stickers and many other signs gracing that slogan.

We at Lillenas thought it would be a great idea to help children remember their strong Christian patriotic heritage. We have developed a mini musical, which will do just that. "United We Stand" brings to light the heritage of many of the patriotic hymns we know and love and it provides a great praise and worship experience for your children. It is so important that we take time to pass on to our children the existence of Christ in our American heritage. Giving them this gift of knowledge, will help enable them to meet the evils of the future.

I praise God for all of you and thank you so much for working for our Lord with children. You, too, are a hero in the sight of God. You are making an eternal difference.

God bless YOU!
Living for Jesus!
