By Gary Morris

Gary MorrisTake a close look at the front cover...No, I mean a REAL close look. Yep, it's a sculpture, the "Archangel Michael Casting Satan Into Hell," a sculpture by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro (1680-1750). This piece originates from the Convent of the Religiosas Agustinas in Salamance, Spain. The original multicolored, gilded wood sculpture, ornamented with bits of inset glass and containing forty pieces of wood, represents the climax of the "war in heaven" described in Revelation 12:7-9.

Now, look again. It's NOT the original wood sculpture. It's a HUMAN depiction of the classic art piece...WITH REAL PEOPLE meticulously made up and precisely positioned (Yep, I said "WOW" too!) for the Pageant of Our Lord, a celebration of the promise and life of Jesus Christ portrayed in living reproductions of great works of art, as presented by Rolling Hills Covenant Church in Rolling Hills Estates, California.

Inspired by the world famous Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, and the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, California, Dr. David Halverson, Producer and Music Director at RHCC, and Rassie Harper began in 1986 presenting the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through "living works of art." Makeup artists, models, actors, choir, orchestra, sound and lighting crews along with food preparation and prayer groups-over 350 church members and many other volunteers-devote thousands of hours each year to make the pageant come to life.

I know you will be inspired, awe-struck and blessed as you read the article written by Dr. Halverson, beginning on page 32. Don't be surprised if you catch yourself saying something like "WOW," "AWESOME," or maybe even "GROOVY!" Well, maybe not groovy...

Under Construction,
Gary
